Suggestions for a Great Shoot!

  • Think about the time of day when your child/children are happiest and try to schedule around that time. Being a mom, I get that some times just won't work with your little one. Happy kids and happy parents can lead to great photos.
  • Bring a few extra snacks (mess free and quick - cheerios, pretzels, animal crackers, gold fish, etc) to help keep tummies happy, too! Bring a water bottle, also.
  • Don't be afraid to bribe your kids for just a moment, use whatever they like - gum, candy, etc. Occasionally, even the happiest, easy going kids can become quiet in front of the camera.
  • No reason to get stressed. Kids can sense it and it makes them feel stressed also. If you child needs a break, no problem, we can take a breather. We'll get great shots!
  • If you have a great blanket quilt, child's chair (i.e. small rocking chair) bring it. It will make a great ground cover and add some awesome color to your photos.
  • Be sure that your kiddos have a clean face. Removing boogers and food digitally adds hours of editing rather doing it prior photos.
  • Keep children to one or two outfits as changing eats up some of our time together. If your children are messy, please travel in a different outfit
  • Think about colors that make you happy or maybe think of some that fit the season
  • Bring your Katie Jean Photography USB Flash Drive so it can be "re-loaded" with your latest images

What do you want to wear to help make you and your family pop off the page? I love choosing two colors and seeing what I can do piece together with textures and patterns.

Try picking one or two colors and have each person wear those colors in a different way. Meaning, try one person in stripes while the others are in prints, patterns, solids, etc.

Need more color? Then have a few people add pops of bright color - purple, yellow, red - to help spice up your look. The larger the group, remember to keep it simple! Stick with one color and let people interpret the hue on their own. That way, if people are wearing shirts that don't match just perfectly, you don't have to worry or get worked up over the "right" color.

Can you tell I'm a bit proud of my family?
